This is the forward to that yet to finish book. As yet the book has no title.
FORWARD
It has been over 40 years when I started in this game called Advertising, so memories may be dim in some instances. But memories are the most precious of all our possessions. I recall a joke that I think is very appropriate to start this book with.
Three very elderly English gentlemen were sitting in their very English men only club, having afternoon tea and scones. The first was 70, the second 80 and the third was 90 years old.
The 70 year old gentleman asked without expecting any answers,” You know what I missed most as we get older? “
A paused by him and a silent understanding from the other two that he will give the answer eventually.
He continued with the answer, “ You know I loved to collect beautiful and expensive paintings.” A statement this time rather than a question. “Lately, I cannot enjoy them.” Almost in desperation he cried out,” I am losing my sights!”.
The two elder gentlemen simply looked at him. Then the 80 year old gentleman says,” I know. I know how you feel. I loved to collect beautiful classical music. Now I cannot enjoy them any more. I am losing my hearing.”
The 90-year-old gentleman looks at them as though they are small children. He snorts at them and says in a very authoritative voice,” You guys do not know what you are talking about! I just got married again. This time, I am married to a very beautiful sexy 18-year-old doll of a girl. Last night lying in bed beside her I asked to make love. She replied - You fool, we just made love five minutes ago….. See! I am losing my memory! ”
So memory is a very important possession. How can you expect to enjoy the good things in life if you have no memory of that enjoyment? This book is about those enjoyable times I had in the advertising industry. I sincerely hope you will enjoy reliving those memories with me.
